Job summary

Brook Street is seeking a Team Leader for a children’s home in Chipping, Preston. The role leads shifts, supports a dedicated team and helps create stability, safety and positive moments for children aged 8-18.

Salary is £34,496 per annum inclusive of sleep-in, with a 2 on 4 off shift pattern. Applicants should have experience with children or young people in residential or related care, strong safeguarding knowledge, and the ability to lead and decide under pressure.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children or young people within residential care, social care, education, youth work or a comparable setting.
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
• The ability to provide leadership and direction with confidence-making appropriate decisions during shifts.
• A solid understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment and behaviour support.
• Emotional resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills and the confidence to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to recognise when matters need escalation to management.
• Professional boundaries, reliability, flexibility, integrity and accountability.
• Willingness to work the shift patterns required.

Responsibilities

• Lead allocated shifts and help ensure the home runs safely and effectively day to day
• Deliver high-quality, child-centred care in line with individual care plans, risk assessments and assessed needs
• Provide day-to-day leadership to Residential Support Workers-coordinating duties and deploying staffing according to children's needs and identified risks
• Maintain oversight of safeguarding, risk and behaviour during your shift, escalating concerns appropriately
• Support routines, appointments, education, activities and other positive opportunities
• Guide staff through incidents, challenging situations and changes in children's circumstances
• Monitor the quality and completion of staff records, incident reports and other required documentation
• Run effective shift handovers so key information is communicated clearly
• Promote positive behaviour, independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing
• Build trusting, professionally appropriate relationships and ensure young people's wishes and feelings are listened to
• Mentor new and less experienced staff with constructive feedback

Additional information:

• Hourly rate: £15.25 per hour, sleep rate £54 (equivalent to £34,496.00 per annum)
• 2 on 4 off rotating shift pattern
• Support towards a Level 4 qualification; structured working pattern and supportive environment
• Enhanced safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS and relevant barred list checks
• Full UK driving license is essential
