Job Overview

The opportunity has arisen for an experienced, self-motivated, and innovative Physiotherapist to join our Acute Neurosciences Therapy team as the lead for the team working in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The broader team is led by a Clinical Lead Therapist and provides care to both inpatients and the intensive care unit. The Team Lead Physiotherapist will lead and collaborate with the multi-professional team on the bedded NICU to deliver early high-quality assessments and rehabilitation, managing a clinical caseload of highly complex neurosurgical and neuro-medical patients.

The role also involves operational management, supervision, teaching Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants, and students, and leading audit, quality improvement, and evidence-based projects.

Main Duties
  • Responsible for operational management and development of the NICU and ENT Physiotherapy service.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and development of the Physiotherapy service for NICU and ENT using expert knowledge.
  • Provide specialist support and advice to the NICU and ENT team with clinical reasoning skills.
  • Supervise and teach senior and junior Physiotherapists and students within NICU.
  • Maintain a clinical caseload of highly complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Lead in evidence-based practice, quality assurance, and standards of care in NICU.
  • Initiate and participate in projects, implementing changes and monitoring standards.
  • Contribute to the development of cardiorespiratory care services across the Trust.
  • Represent Physiotherapy at relevant Critical Care networks within the Trust and Thames Valley Health Authority.
  • Liaise with other ICU and Neurosciences teams regarding patient care across Trust sites.
