Job summary

Axcis Education is recruiting enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants for a full-time, long-term role at a Greenford-based Outstanding SEND Primary School. You will support pupils with autism and diverse SEND needs, work with a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to tailored education plans.

You'll provide 1:1 and small-group support, use PECS and Makaton where needed, and help students access learning with a nurturing, inclusive approach. Trial days are available immediately.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with autism and a range of SEND needs.
  • Ability to use PECS and knowledge of Makaton.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to undergo DBS updates and safeguarding checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism and complex SEND needs.
  • Support pupils in small classes of up to 10 children.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:45pm

Axcis Education is proud to be working in partnership with an Outstanding SEND Primary School in Greenford, Ealing, to recruit enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants for full-time, long-term positions available immediately. The school is currently arranging immediate trial days and is keen to appoint the right candidates as soon as possible.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of additional needs, including: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Complex learning difficulties, Communication needs, Sensory processing differences. This is a rewarding, hands-on role where you will play a key part in helping children access learning, develop essential life skills, and achieve their individual education goals. You'll work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide consistent, personalised support that enables every pupil to thrive.

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism and complex SEND needs.
  • Support pupils in small classes of up to 10 children.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment.
  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and achieving individual learning targets.
  • Use communication strategies such as PECS and Makaton to promote engagement and learning.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide personal care where required.
  • Encourage pupils' communication, social, emotional, and independence skills.
  • Support positive behaviour using consistent strategies and routines.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and senior leaders.
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, engagement, and achievements.
  • Contribute to the school's inclusive, supportive, and child-centred culture.
About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience supporting children with autism and a range of SEND needs.
  • A good understanding of complex learning needs and positive behaviour support.
  • Experience using PECS and knowledge of Makaton.
  • Confidence in providing personal care when required.
  • A proactive, patient, adaptable, and hands-on approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • The ability to learn quickly and respond positively to training and feedback.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Full-time availability to start ASAP.
  • Availability to attend trial days immediately.
