Job description

Full‑Time Teaching Assistant – Specialist School (January Start) £90–£95 per day | 8:30am – 3:30pm | Long‑Term Position

Are you an experienced and compassionate Teaching Assistant seeking a meaningful role where you can genuinely make a difference? Do you have personal or professional experience supporting children or young people with complex learning needs? If so, this full‑time position within our specialist school could be the ideal next step in your career.

We are currently looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our highly skilled and supportive team from January. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping pupils with significant additional needs to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Our school provides specialist education for pupils with complex and severe learning needs, and every child in our care has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Many pupils require adapted approaches to communication, sensory regulation and daily learning. As such, we are seeking an individual who brings patience, resilience and a nurturing approach, as well as a genuine commitment to inclusive education.

The ideal candidate will have previous SEND experience, whether gained through classroom roles, care settings, therapeutic environments, or personal experience supporting individuals with additional needs. Confidence in using a variety of strategies – including visual supports, sensory‑based approaches and differentiated learning activities – will be highly valued. You will work closely with class teachers, therapists and other specialists to deliver targeted, responsive support that helps each pupil reach their individual goals. This role is best suited to someone who is proactive, calm under pressure, and keen to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have communication differences, challenging behaviours, physical disabilities or complex medical needs.

Training and ongoing support will be provided, but we are particularly eager to hear from candidates who already understand the rewards and challenges of working within a specialist setting.
