Job summary

St Mary's C of E Primary School in Swindon invites applications for two Teaching Assistant posts. The roles involve supporting pupils' learning, wellbeing and development, both in the classroom and small-group settings, under the guidance of teaching and senior staff.

We are looking for compassionate, committed individuals with experience caring for children, safeguarding knowledge, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age.
• Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning.
• Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to relate well to both children and adults.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND.
• Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions.
• Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources.
• Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence.
• Supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.

Job description

Salary:NJC Grade C: £26,847 - £27,274 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern:These are two fixed term positionsworking 32.5 hours and 22.5hours per week, 39weeks per year until 31st August 2027 (Monday to Friday)

About the Role

St Mary's C of E Primary School are seeking committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our school team. You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and development, helping to create a positive, inclusive and engaging school environment.

Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small‑group settings.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
• Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
• Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
• Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
• You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.

Essential qualities include:

• Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age

Desirable (but not essential):

• Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
• Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
• NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
