Job summary

St. Martin's C of E Primary School in England is seeking two teaching assistants to support our Early Years and KS1 teams. You will work closely with a class teacher and fellow teaching assistants to help children settle into school life and thrive.

Responsibilities include supporting learning in class and small groups, assisting with planning and preparing resources, and promoting pupil welfare and wellbeing. DBS disclosure is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning.
  • Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults.

Job description

Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small-group settings.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils' welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
  • Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
  • Assisting with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompanying pupils on trips when required.

Our Teaching Assistants are also required to take on half an hour of mealtime assistant duties each day as we believe it is good to have adults who know the children well supporting them to have safe and happy lunchtimes.

This role requires an enhanced DBS disclosure.

We are looking for someone who can bring compassion and commitment to the role.

Essential qualities include:
  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age

Desirable (but not essential):
  • Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
  • Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent

Salary: NJC Grade C: £26,847 - £27,274 FTE (This will be paid pro-rated to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: These are two permanent positions working 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (Monday to Friday).

The role will involve working closely with a class teacher and team of teaching assistants to support our children in reception or KS1 so that they settle into school life, learn and thrive.
