Job summary

Dyke House Academy is seeking four Teaching Assistants to support interventions and provide learning assistance across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will work with students who require additional mentoring to achieve GCSEs, and support those with special needs under the direction of a class teacher or Inclusion Manager.

Your role focuses on promoting learning and welfare by delivering practical support, mentoring, and helping students access a broad National Curriculum with strong ICT usage

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Interventions: Prepare and deliver targeted intervention programs to individuals and small groups, enabling them to access the National Curriculum.
  • Student Mentoring: Discuss reasons for underperformance and track progress.
  • Classroom Support: Assist in planning, monitoring, and evaluating learning objectives under the teacher.
  • Skill Development: Help develop literacy, language and reasoning skills and assist with set assignments.
  • Direct Student Aid: Clarify instructions, motivate learners and help them finish work.
  • Inclusion & Support: Support students with special needs and develop ILPs.
  • Behaviour & Environment: Model positive behaviour and maintain high standards.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Liaise with teachers, heads of department and parents.
  • Technology: Assist in maximizing ICT use in learning.
  • Cover Coverage: Supervise classes during short-term absences.
  • Exam Invigilation: Assist with internal and external exam invigilation.

Job description

Northern Education Trust is seeking to appoint four dedicated Teaching Assistants to join the team at Dyke House Academy. In this role, you will work as part of the academy/department to support interventions with students who require additional mentoring to achieve their GCSEs. You will also work with other small groups and individual students across both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 as required.

Your primary focus will be to promote the learning and welfare of students by providing practical and learning support, including supporting those with special needs, under the direction of a class teacher or Inclusion Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Interventions: Prepare and deliver targeted intervention programs to individuals and small groups, enabling them to achieve maximum access and participation in the National Curriculum.
  • Student Mentoring: Interview students to discuss reasons for underperformance, assist in developing intervention materials, and keep detailed logs of student progress.
  • Classroom Support: Work under the direction of the class teacher to assist in planning, monitoring, and evaluating learning objectives.
  • Skill Development: Help students further develop their literacy, language, and reasoning skills, while assisting them with the organization and preparation of set assignments.
  • Direct Student Aid: Aid learning by clarifying instructions, ensuring students can use equipment, motivating learners, and helping them concentrate to finish their work.
  • Inclusion & Support: Support students with special needs to encourage acceptance and inclusion, develop methods to reinforce self-esteem, and assist in creating Individual Learning Plans (ILP).
  • Behaviour & Environment: Establish productive working relationships with students, act as a role model, and support the "expectations for learning" system to maintain high standards of behaviour.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Liaise regularly with teachers, heads of department, and parents/carers regarding student progress, ILPs, and feedback.
  • Technology: Assist in maximizing the use of ICT in the learning process under the direction of the teacher.
  • Cover Coverage: Occasionally supervise whole classes during short-term absences of teachers.
  • Exam Invigilation: Assist with the invigilation of internal and external examination and assessments as required.
