Job summary

Vetro Recruitment is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND in Wirral, Merseyside, within a specialist provision in a mainstream school. You’ll assist with learning activities, promote independence, and help learners access the curriculum in an inclusive setting.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, helping with targeted interventions, tracking progress, and safeguarding. Level 2/3 ST&L or equivalent experience, an Enhanced DBS and Right to Work in the UK are required.

Qualifications

• Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent, is required.
• Experience supporting children with SEND in education settings.
• Enhanced DBS check and Right to Work in the UK are required.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND, including SLCN and/or Autism.
• Supporting the class teacher to maintain a calm, structured learning environment and consistent behaviour expectations.
• Assisting with targeted interventions, tracking progress, and contributing to pupil outcomes evidence.
• Helping pupils develop independence, social communication, and confidence across activities and routines.
• Preparing learning resources, adapting tasks, and promoting positive engagement in lessons.
• Working with school staff and following safeguarding procedures to keep pupils safe.

Job Description

Teaching Assistant - Special Resource Provision opportunities are available in Wirral, Merseyside, supporting pupils within a specialist provision in a mainstream school setting. This is a practical, people-focused role where you’ll help learners access the curriculum, build independence, and feel included as part of the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND, including Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and/or Autism
• Supporting the class teacher to maintain a calm, structured learning environment and consistent behaviour expectations
• Assisting with targeted interventions, tracking progress, and contributing to evidence of pupil outcomes
• Helping pupils to develop independence, social communication, and confidence across learning activities and routines
• Preparing learning resources, adapting tasks where required, and promoting positive engagement in lessons
• Working closely with school staff and following safeguarding procedures to ensure pupils are safe and supported at all times

Requirements & Qualifications

• Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent), or strong relevant classroom experience
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in an education, childcare, or support setting
• Enhanced DBS Check and Right to Work in the UK, with a safeguarding-first approach
