Job summary

Milk Education is hiring a Teaching Assistant to support SEND and student intervention at a Leeds secondary school. The role involves in-class support, 1:1 and small-group interventions, and helping students access the curriculum.

The candidate should have experience with children or young people, especially with SEND or behavioural needs, and be capable of building positive relationships, managing behaviour, and working as part of a team in a busy school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEND and a range of individual learning needs.
  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions.
  • Help organise and run induction and intervention programmes.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Support students with their behaviour, engagement, confidence and independence.
  • Encourage students to participate positively in lessons and activities.
  • Prepare resources for interventions and track student progress.
  • Maintain accurate student records and report on progress and concerns.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding and welfare of students.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Support students during break, lunchtime and other non-lesson periods.

Hours: 31.25 hours per week, term time only + 5 training days
Contract: Permanent
Start Date: ASAP / September 2026
Salary: A3/B1: Level 3-6

Milk Education are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant - SEND / Student Intervention & Support to join a secondary school in Leeds on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Intervention Worker, Youth Worker or similar professional who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with the SEND Leader and teaching staff, providing a combination of in-class support, 1:1 and small-group intervention, helping students develop their confidence, independence and ability to access the curriculum.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant - SEND / Student Intervention & Support, you will:

  • Support students with SEND and a range of individual learning needs.
  • Deliver and support 1:1 and small-group interventions as directed by the SEND Leader and teaching staff.
  • Help organise and run induction and intervention programmes.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a consistent and positive role model.
  • Support students with their behaviour, engagement, confidence and independence.
  • Encourage students to participate positively in lessons and activities.
  • Support students to understand and follow instructions.
  • Assist students with literacy, numeracy and KS3 learning strategies where required.
  • Prepare resources for interventions and track student progress.
  • Support teachers with classroom behaviour and learning.
  • Maintain accurate student records and report on progress and concerns.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding and welfare of students.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Support students during break, lunchtime and other non-lesson periods when required.
About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEND, additional needs or behavioural challenges.

You may currently be working as a:
