Job summary

Somerlea Park Junior School is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support learning for children with SEND. The successful candidate will work with individual pupils and as part of a team to deliver tailored learning materials, safeguarding and promoting an inclusive school ethos.

Ideal applicants will have GCSE Maths and English (grade 4-9) and a Teaching Assistant qualification. Visits to the school are welcomed, and a positive, nurturing approach is valued.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English grade 4-9 (A-C) or equivalent essential
  • Teaching Assistant Qualification desirable
  • Relevant Training over last two years desirable

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual children with SEND and EHCPs.
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Prepare learning materials and adapt teaching support according to childrenʼs needs
  • Look after children's physical, social and emotional welfare—inclusive of first aid duties
  • Be creative and innovative
  • Have high expectations of achievement and behaviour
  • Promote and support the inclusion of all pupils, including those with specific needs.
  • Be motivated and passionate to achieve the very best for the children in our care and make a genuine difference
  • Use initiative to assess and evaluate pupils' needs

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Teaching Assistant who is able to support the learning of children with SEND.

The successful candidates will be excellent classroom practitioners with experience of working with children with a range of needs and who are dedicated to enabling children to achieve their personal best.

They will:
  • Work with individual children with SEND and EHCPs.
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Prepare learning materials and adapt teaching support according to childrenʼs needs

Qualifications

Experience

Experience working in a school environment or other educational setting essential

Experience working with children / young people with special educational needs (SEN) essential

Experience planning and delivering learning activities essential

Has experience of leading playground activities.

Skills and expertise in understanding the needs of all pupils essential

Ability to work as part of a team and to be flexible in their approach to daily routines essential

Knowledge of how to help adapt and deliver support to meet individual needs essential

Good IT skills, particularly using IT to support learning essential

Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children essential

The ability to remain calm in stressful situations essential

Capacity to inspire, motivate and challenge children and young people essential

Resilient, positive, forward looking and enthusiastic about making a difference essential

Commitment to safeguarding pupils’ wellbeing and equality essential

Commitment to always maintaining confidentiality essential
