Job summary

Barnsole Primary School is seeking a Teaching Assistant (SEND) to support pupils with a range of needs in our SEND provision. You will work closely with class teachers to deliver tailored 1:1 or small group support and help pupils access learning.

The role requires patience, resilience and a commitment to continuous professional development. Ideally you will have NVQ Level 2 or equivalent, and experience supporting pupils with ASD, speech and language needs, SEMH, or other needs.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) and strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD, speech and language needs, SEMH or other needs.
  • Passionate about making a difference to children with SEND.
  • Proactive, flexible and a strong team player.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to help pupils access learning.
  • Assist with personal care needs, ensuring dignity and respect.
  • Help deliver inclusive lessons and interventions.
  • Encourage independence, build confidence and foster a love of learning.

About this Role

Join Barnsole School as a Teaching Assistant (SEND)

Make a real difference-every day, every child, every moment

Hours: 30.5 hours per week as a TA + 2 hours as a HLTA (Mon - Friday 8:30 - 3:30)

Contract: Permanent

Time Time Only: 38 weeks per year

Start Date: 2nd November 2026

Actual Salary: TA D2 4-11 £17,359.25 -£19,702.40 (Actual). HLTA post C2 12-25 £1,300.32-£1,684.45 (Actual) + SEN Allowance £1539

About The Role

As a Teaching Assistant at Barnsole Primary School in our SEND provision, you'll play a vital role in supporting the academic, emotional, and social development of pupils including those with SEND. Every day brings variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. In this role, you will:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to help pupils access learning
  • Assist with personal care needs when required, always ensuring dignity and respect
  • Help deliver creative, inclusive lessons and interventions
  • Encourage independence, build confidence, and foster a love of learning
  • Contribute to a calm, nurturing, and positive school atmosphere
Who You Are
  • Passionate about making a difference to children with SEND
  • Experienced in supporting pupils with ASD, speech and language needs, SEMH, or other additional needs
  • Ideally qualified to at least NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent), with strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Proactive, flexible, and able to work well as part of a team
  • Calm, empathetic, and resilient under pressure
  • Committed to continuous professional development
