Job summary

Prospect House Primary Specialist School in Manchester is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant Level 1 SEN to support students with complex needs. This fixed-term post runs for one academic year, 29 hours per week during term time plus 5 INSET days. Starting salary aligns with Grade 3 and ranges, with pre-employment checks completed.

You will assist with learning, communication, independence and wellbeing, delivering 1:1 and small-group support as directed by teaching staff.

Qualifications

  • Numeracy and literacy at least Level 2 or equivalent.

  • Experience with children/young people with special educational needs desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work with small groups under supervision to implement Individual Learning Plans.
  • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Give regular feedback on progress and maintain records.
  • Supervise discreet groups of pupils when the teacher isn’t present.

Salary: £25,583 - £25,989 per annum

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant Level 1 SEN to join our fantastic team at Prospect House Primary Specialist School

This is a fixed term post for one academic year, working 29 hours per week during term time only plus 5 INSET days.

The starting salary is £18,232 and the full time equivalent is £25,583 (Grade 3). This role is to start as soon as pre-employment checks are complete.

Main purpose of the job:
As a Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEN), you will work closely with students requiring individualised support due to complex needs.

You will play a key role in enabling access to learning, supporting communication, and promoting independence and well-being.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To work with small groups of children under the supervision of the teacher and ensure implementation of Individual Learning Plans.
  • Providing consistent 1:1 support tailored to the student’s individual needs
  • Provide regular feedback on children’s progress to the class teacher and keeping records up to date.
  • Assist with the supervision of discreet groups of pupils for short periods when the teacher is not present.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Participate in training, to develop relevant learning strategies and ensure students make progress in learning.
  • To support the performance management process and demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
  • To converse at ease and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

About the Candidate

We’re looking for:

  • Someone who understands the role of a Teaching Assistant, collaborates effectively with classroom professionals, and has basic knowledge of child development and learning and excellent numeracy and literacy skills, qualified to level 2 or equivalent/higher.
  • The right candidate will be committed to professional standards, continuously striving to maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills. A focus on teamwork and driving continuous improvement to support student success is required.
  • You will be part of a team providing exceptional education for students. You will require tact and diplomacy in order to build excellent interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders including colleagues across the school and trust, parents and external agencies.
  • Experience of working with children and/or young people with communication, severe, profound or complex learning difficulties is highly desirable.

This is a great opportunity to work in a Special Educational Needs School, working under the supervision of other teachers.
