Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Liverpool is recruiting dedicated Teaching Assistants to support secondary schools, SEN settings, SEMH provisions and Alternative Provision settings from September 2026. You will work across multiple schools in Liverpool, helping students overcome barriers to learning and engage in academic and personal development.

They require experience with children, DBS, GCSEs, and a patient, resilient approach.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for working with pupils, staff and families.
  • Ability to build relationships and maintain positive behaviour in class.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students.
  • Support pupils with SEN, SEMH and additional learning needs.
  • Encourage engagement, participation and positive behaviour.
  • Implement individual support plans and behaviour strategies.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to student development.

Contract: Long-term placements
Pay: £92-£120 per day (depending on experience)

Teaching Personnel is recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support a variety of secondary schools, SEN settings, SEMH provisions, and Alternative Provision schools across Liverpool from September 2026.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and build confidence in the classroom. You'll support pupils with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Moderate learning difficulties
  • Behavioural and emotional challenges

Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff, you'll help create a positive, inclusive environment where every student can succeed.

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support
  • Supporting students with SEN, SEMH and additional learning needs
  • Encouraging engagement, participation and positive behaviour
  • Implementing individual support plans and behaviour strategies
  • Building students' confidence, resilience and independence
  • Liaising with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies
  • Monitoring progress and contributing to student development
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional and wellbeing needs
  • Maintaining high safeguarding standards at all times
  • Helping create a positive and inclusive school culture

We're seeking individuals who are patient, resilient and genuinely committed to supporting young people. You may already have experience in education, or bring transferable skills from sectors such as youth work, mentoring, support work, residential care or community services.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who can build strong relationships, remain calm under pressure and inspire students to achieve their best.

  • Experience working with children or young people in a professional setting
  • Previous experience within a UK school or educational environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Confidence supporting students with additional learning or behavioural needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Mentoring, intervention or youth work experience
  • Team Teach, MAPA or behaviour management training
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices
  • Long-term, full-time opportunities available from September
