Grange C of E Primary School in Grange-Over-Sands is seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to support children on a 1:1 and small group basis, including those with special educational needs, across nursery to KS2. You will work alongside teachers to deliver tailored support and nurture a safe, inclusive environment.

This part-time maternity cover role (18.5 hours/week) requires collaboration with the SENCO, delivering IEPs and EHCPs, and promoting safeguarding throughout.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Level 3 or Level 2 Teaching Assistant.
  • Experience of working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Experience across Early Years, KS1 and KS2.
  • Understanding of SEN including autism, ADHD, speech and language, or social and emotional needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to diverse student needs.
  • Awareness of trauma-informed practice: safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment.
  • Patience, empathy and a passion for supporting all children including those with SEN.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Teaching Assistant

The governors at Grange C of E Primary School are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic teaching assistant to support children on a 1:1 and small group basis, including those with special educational needs, in nursery and KS2. Grange C of E Primary School has a dedicated team of staff who are highly motivated and passionate about creating the best experiences for our pupils. This is a part-time role, working 18.5 hours per week, term time only to cover maternity leave.

The role involves working closely with class teachers and the SENCO to deliver tailored support that meets pupils’ educational, social, and emotional needs in a safe and inclusive setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide targeted support for pupils with special educational needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, particularly those with SEMH, ADHD and autism.
  • Assist with the implementation of individual learning programmes (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Adapt and prepare learning materials under the direction of the teacher to ensure accessibility for all pupils.
  • Foster independence, self-regulation and positive behaviour, using strategies aligned with individual needs.
  • Contribute to regular assessment and review processes by providing observations and feedback.
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour and health and safety policies consistently.
  • Work as part of a collaborative, supportive team and maintain strong, professional relationships with staff and families.
  • Support and foster to Christian vision and values of the school.
Person Specification:
Essential:
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g.Level 3 or level 2 Teaching Assistant).
  • Experience of working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Experience of working in the Early Years, KS1 and KS2.
  • Understanding of a range of special educational needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language, or social and emotional needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse needs of students.
  • Awareness of trauma informed practice, including principles such a safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural consideration.
  • Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting all children including those with special educational needs.
  • Basic knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • A positive attitude.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and equal opportunities.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.
Desirable:
  • Experience supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Level 2 or 3 Qualification or equivalent
