Job summary

Ysgol Gymunedol Llanfarian in Aberystwyth is seeking a skilled Level 4 Teaching Assistant to join from 1 September 2026 for a one-year term. The role supports learning across the school, runs small groups, and may lead whole classes as needed.

You will mentor other teaching assistants, plan lessons with teachers, and help deliver enrichment activities, with a focus on inclusion and safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • Has experience with children of the relevant age in a learning environment.
  • Meets HLTA standards or holds an equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills (equivalent to NVQ Level 2 or above).
  • Has specialist training or skills in relevant curriculum areas, such as literacy, numeracy, ICT, bilingual support, or sign language.
  • Has a sound understanding of child development, learning processes, and statutory frameworks.
  • Can use ICT and technology effectively to support learning.
  • Is confident leading and motivating others, with strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Understands safeguarding, inclusion, and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities under supervision.
  • Assess pupil needs and support learning and progress.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education and Behaviour Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress and contribute to assessments and records.

  • Work with teachers to plan and evaluate lessons and meet pupils' needs.
  • Manage and support other teaching assistants, including mentoring and training.

Job description

Are you an experienced and motivated professional passionate about helping children learn, grow, and achieve their full potential? Ysgol Gymunedol Llanfarian is seeking a skilled Level 4 Teaching Assistant to join the team from 1/9/2026 for a period of one year initially.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting learning across the school, working closely with teachers, leading small group sessions, and occasionally taking responsibility for whole classes. You’ll also help manage and develop other teaching assistants, ensuring a high standard of support for all pupils.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities under an agreed system of supervision.
  • Assess the needs of pupils and use specialist knowledge to support learning and progress.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education and Behaviour Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress and contribute to assessments and record-keeping.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, self-esteem, and positive behaviour.
  • Use ICT effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Work with teachers to plan and evaluate lessons, ensuring activities meet pupils’ needs.
  • Manage and support other teaching assistants, including mentoring, appraisal, and training.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of out-of-school learning activities and enrichment opportunities.

  • Meets Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) standards or holds an equivalent qualification or experience.

  • Has a sound understanding of child development, learning processes, and statutory frameworks.

  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, inclusion, and continuous professional development.
