Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking a Teaching Assistant Level 3 for Washingwell Community Primary School. This part-time role (30 hours per week, 12:00-18:00, term time) supports vulnerable children during lunch and afternoon sessions, then leads in our after‑school wrap around provision, Whizz Kids.

You will join an enthusiastic team, provide in-class support, assist with planning and resources, and support children's social, educational and recreational needs within a warm, inclusive community

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children in a primary school setting, including those with SEND.
• Strong teamwork and a positive attitude are essential.
• Holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant / NVQ qualification as a minimum requirement.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and committed professional to join our school in a new role encompassing in class support and leading in our after‑school provision.

This new role will involve supporting vulnerable children over the lunch period, in class support during afternoon sessions then leading in our wrap around provision, Whizz Kids, after school.

‘Washingwell Whizz Kids provides before and after school club childcare provision for all children on roll at Washingwell Primary School (including Nursery children) and we are delighted to offer the service as part of our extended provision to support our families. We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant who:

• has an outstanding record of working well within a team demonstrating a positive attitude, enthusiasm, dedication and commitment.
• has experience of working with children in a primary school setting, specifically with children with SEND.
• holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant / NVQ Qualification as a minimum essential requirement.

The successful candidate would be expected to:

• establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
• contribute to the planning, preparation and resources of learning activities during the school day.
• provide for the social, educational, leisure and recreational needs of children from 3 -11 in our after‑school provision.
• display excellent communication skills.
• be responsible for all administration, planning, organising and leading of play provision outside of non-directed academic learning time.
