Job summary

Ryburn Valley High School is seeking a dedicated SEN/SEMH support assistant to work under the SENCO and classroom staff to help students access learning. You will deliver learning activities and interventions, implement individual learning plans, and provide SEMH and emotional wellbeing support.

Training for ELSA will be provided; experience desirable but not essential. The role is permanent, term-time only with 2 additional days, 30 hours per week (Mon-Fri 8:30am–3:00pm).

Responsibilities

  • Work under SENCO and classroom teacher to support students in accessing learning.
  • Deliver targeted learning activities and interventions; assist with individual learning plans.
  • Deliver Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) interventions or undertake ELSA training.
  • Support pupils to develop emotional awareness, resilience, self-esteem and coping strategies.
  • Promote SEMH and emotional wellbeing through guidance and team collaboration.

Job description

Salary: Band D (NJC points 4-6) ActualSalary: £18,228 - £19,429 per annum **Pending pay award.Contract Terms: Permanent, term-time only plus 2 days.Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am – 3.00pm.Closing Date: Friday 4th September 2026 at 9.00am.Start Date: As soon as your notice period allows.

Whatthe role involves in a nutshell:

  • Workunder the direction, guidance, and supervision of the SENCO and classroomteacher to support students in accessing learning.
  • Takeresponsibility for delivering specific learning activities andinterventions, helping to implement individual learning plans in line withthe overall teaching strategy.
  • Delivertargeted interventions, both within the classroom and in small group or1:1 settings outside the classroom environment.
  • DeliverEmotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) interventions, or undertakeELSA training to develop the skills and knowledge required to providehigh-quality emotional literacy support. Previous ELSA experience orqualification is desirable but not essential, as full training will beprovided for the right candidate.
  • Supportpupils to develop emotional awareness, resilience, self-esteem, andpositive coping strategies through planned interventions and nurturingrelationships.
  • DeliverSEMH- and emotional wellbeing-related guidance and share effectivestrategies with the wider learning support team to promote a positive,inclusive, and emotionally supportive environment for all students.
