Job summary

Phoenix Park Academy in Grimsby is seeking Teaching Assistants to support students with SEMH and academic learning within a two-person classroom team.

You will assist with Maths, English and Reading, helping pupils develop resilience, social skills and self-esteem through targeted small-group and individual work.

Qualifications

Job role

These posts are for staff who will support students with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and academic learning within the classroom as part of a team of 2 staff with up to 8 students.

Teaching Assistants are responsible for supporting and leading small groups and individuals with Maths, English, Reading, SEMH, vocational and practical activities, supporting pupils to develop resilience, social skills and self-esteem, and deploying effective strategies for supporting pupils with a range of behavioural needs.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting teachers to deliver effective and accessible learning for all students
  • Offering personalised support to help students achieve
  • Being a calm, regulated presence to support children with all emotions, including Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Recognising and praising small steps of progress with students and celebrating them
  • Assisting the teacher with the organisation and running of a classroom
  • Supporting each child with strategies tailored to individual needs
  • Raising students' academic levels in Maths, English and Reading
Pre‑employment checks

All posts are offered subject to enhanced DBS checks. References will be requested and an online search carried out for shortlisted candidates prior to interview. Further pre‑employment checks, including prohibition from teaching, childcare disqualification and section 128 checks, if deemed relevant for the role, will be completed for the successful candidate on acceptance of the post.
