Job summary

Grange School in Manchester is seeking a Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEN) to join our dedicated team. This permanent 35-hour role is term-time with 5 INSET days, with a starting salary of £22,004 and a full-time equivalent of £25,583 Grade 3.

You will support pupils' learning, wellbeing and development under supervision of teaching staff, helping learners become confident, happy young people through small-group work, feedback, and inclusive practice.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of the Teaching Assistant role and child development and learning.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills (Level 2 or above).
  • Team player with high professional standards.
  • Tactful, diplomatic, and able to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience or interest in working with children with communication difficulties or complex learning needs.
  • Clear spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Support small groups of children and implement Individual Learning Plans.
  • Assist with supervision during teacher absence (short periods).
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress and maintain records.
  • Ensure equal access to learning for all pupils.

Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEN) to join our fantastic team at Grange School.

This is a permanent position working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days. The starting salary is £22,004 and the full time equivalent is £25,583 Grade 3.

About the role:

As a Teaching Assistant Level 1 SEN, you will work under the supervision of teaching staff and the senior leadership team to support pupils' learning, wellbeing, and development. You’ll play a vital role in helping pupils to become happy, confident and successful young adults.

Key responsibilities include:

    We're Looking for applicants who:
    • Have an understanding of the Teaching Assistant role and child development and learning
    • Possesses strong literacy and numeracy skills (qualified to Level 2 or above)
    • Works effectively as part of a team and is committed to high professional standards
    • Is tactful, diplomatic, and able to build positive relationships with all stakeholders
    • Has experience or a keen interest in working with children or young people with communication difficulties, severe, profound, or complex learning needs
    • Can communicate clearly and confidently in spoken English
