Job summary

Job Description – Teaching Assistant

Main Purpose

To support teaching and learning by working under the guidance of the class teacher to provide a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment. The role includes supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development, ensuring all children can access a broad and balanced curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

• Support for Pupils
• Support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in line with the National Curriculum
• Work with individuals and small groups to develop core skills, including literacy and numeracy
• Support pupils with a range of needs, including SEND (e.g. speech and language, communication, physical needs)
• Assist pupils in achieving targets set in ILPs/EHCPs
• Promote positive behaviour and support pupils’ social and emotional development
• Build positive relationships with pupils to support engagement and independence
• Monitor, observe and record pupil progress, providing feedback to the teacher

Support for Teaching and Learning

• Assist in the preparation and organisation of learning resources
• Support the classroom environment to ensure it is purposeful and well organised
• Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
• Contribute to assessment and record-keeping processes

Support for the School

• Contribute to the wider life, ethos and values of the school
• Follow all safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies
• Participate in meetings, training and professional development
• Work flexibly to meet the needs of the school

What You Need to Succeed

We are looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our forward-thinking team, working two days per week. You will play a vital role in supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing, working closely with teachers and colleagues to create an engaging, inclusive and supportive environment in which every child can thrive.

We are looking for someone who has:

• a genuine desire to make a difference to children’s learning and development
• the ability to support and inspire children across the primary age range
• strong communication and interpersonal skills
