Job description

A large school with over 200 staff and 1,700 students is seeking a Teaching Assistant to work within the Special Educational Needs Department, supporting the effective operation of the SEND provision on a day-to-day basis in the school.

This opportunity is specifically aimed at recent graduates who are considering a career in teaching. The school are founder members of the Gloucestershire Initial Teacher Education Partnership (GITEP), which is rated by OFSTED as 'Outstanding'. They offer tailored support to help with your application to GITEP and as you progress in your career. Starting with us does not imply a firm commitment to train as a teacher; the appointment is a fixed contract that provides an opportunity to decide whether to pursue teaching as a career.

You will work 30.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus one week).

Graduates in Maths, English, or Science are desirable, but other subject specialists will also be considered.

As a Teaching Assistant, Your Responsibilities Will Include:
  1. Supporting the effective operation of the SEND provision daily within the school.
  2. Acting as a positive role model embodying the school's values of Purposeful, Proud, Respectful, Curious, Supportive, and Ambitious.
  3. Implementing the school and departmental vision, working with the SEND Lead Practitioner.
  4. Establishing a safe and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect.
  5. Promoting good and courteous behaviour in accordance with the school's Behaviour policy.
  6. Treating students with dignity, building respectful relationships, and observing professional boundaries.
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has the following:
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills (minimum of GCSE grade C or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
  • Experience working within an educational setting.
  • Experience working within specific areas of SEND.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and seek opportunities for development.
  • A personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and rights of young people.
  • Ability to form appropriate relationships and maintain boundaries with children and young people.
  • Adaptation of ICT equipment to meet specific student needs.
  • Working knowledge of the national curriculum and relevant learning programmes.

The school is ambitious, curious, proud, purposeful, respectful, and supportive. They contribute to the local community through various initiatives, including working with neighboring schools, engaging in community arts projects, supporting local sports teams, and being a preferred school for families in Cheltenham and beyond.

Benefits Include:
  • Attractive salary and pension.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Free one-to-one wellbeing support.
  • Family-friendly policies.
  • Onsite parking facilities and cycle storage.
  • Free access to the school's gym.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Discounted gift cards via Voucher Store.
  • Tech scheme to save on Apple and Currys PC World products.
  • A range of staff social events throughout the year.
  • Access to the school's dining centre and Pit Stop Cafe daily from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.
  • Support for further academic and professional development.
  • Benefits including sick pay, maternity, parental, and adoption leave.
  • Enhanced paternity leave policy.
