Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Wakefield. This full-time role provides tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs, helping them engage and progress in KS1/KS2.

You will work one-to-one, deliver targeted interventions, and collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to implement learning plans. DBS checked candidates preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN
• Experience in a primary school setting
• Level 2 Childcare qualification (desirable)
• SEN-specific training advantageous
• Knowledge of KS1/KS2 curriculum
• Commitment to pupil progress and development
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Good safeguarding and child welfare understanding

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support for pupils with additional needs
• Deliver tailored interventions and support programmes
• Support learning across the primary age range
• Encourage engagement, independence, and confidence in the classroom
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
• Monitor and record pupil progress
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to support individual learning plans
• Support small group activities when required
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

Your Responsibilities

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should:

• Have experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
• Have previous experience working within a primary school setting
• Hold a Level 2 Childcare qualification (desirable but not essential)
• Possess SEN-specific qualifications or training (advantageous)
• Have a good understanding of the KS1 and/or KS2 curriculum
• Be committed to supporting pupil progress and development
• Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child welfare
