Job summary

The Priory Primary School is seeking an excellent teacher to join and help lead our established SEND Resource Base, supporting pupils with complex communication needs and autism within an inclusive provision.

You will work with the Inclusion Leader and SEND team to develop high-quality teaching, plan personalised learning, and lead teaching within the Hub, ensuring ambitious outcomes for pupils with diverse needs.

Qualifications

Job description

An exciting opportunity to join our established specialist SEND provision. Are you a dedicated, enthusiastic and inclusive teacher who is passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of children with complex communication needs and/or autism? The Priory Primary School is seeking to appoint an excellent teacher to join and help lead our established SEND Resource Base, which forms an important and developing part of our inclusive provision. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about SEND and high‑quality inclusive education. You may already have experience of working within a specialist or resource‑base setting, or you may be a mainstream primary teacher who has SEND experience; keen to develop further expertise in supporting pupils with complex additional needs. Our Hub supports a small group of pupils who require a highly personalised, structured and nurturing approach to learning, supported by a very strong and committed team of practitioners. We are looking for someone who combines excellent teaching with warmth, patience, creativity and the ability to plan and develop our curriculum to meet need.

About the Role

Working closely with our Inclusion Leader and wider SEND team, you will take an important role in the day‑to‑day leadership and development of our specialist provision.

You will:

• Teach pupils with complex communication needs, autism and a range of additional learning needs within our SEND Hub.
• Plan and deliver high‑quality, ambitious and carefully adapted learning that reflects pupils' individual starting points, EHCP outcomes and wider developmental needs.
• Create a safe, calm, nurturing and highly structured learning environment in which pupils can thrive.
• Support pupils' communication, interaction, independence, emotional regulation and academic development.
• Assess, monitor and record pupils' progress, using this information effectively to inform future teaching and provision.
• Lead teaching and learning within the Hub and help ensure consistently high standards of provision.
• Direct, support and work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants and other adults within the provision.
• Contribute to the organisation and effective deployment of staff within the Hub.
• Work closely with the Inclusion Leader, senior leaders and pastoral team to ensure that pupils receive coordinated and effective support.
• Contribute to EHCP reviews, individual plans, provision mapping and other SEND processes.
• Support colleagues across the wider school in developing their knowledge and confidence in meeting the needs of pupils with complex communication needs and autism.
• Help us to continue developing our specialist provision as the needs of our pupils and school community evolve., Inclusion is central to who we are. Our specialist SEND provision is well established and forms an important part of our wider commitment to ensuring every child receives the support they need to succeed.

Our commitment to inclusion has been recognised through our Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence status. In January 2026, Ofsted judged inclusion to be strong.

A supportive and collaborative team

You will work alongside experienced SEND practitioners, our Inclusion Leader, a pastoral team, Inclusion Manager, Speech and Language Therapist and other senior leaders within a school where staff work together and support one another.

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Is an excellent and reflective classroom practitioner with high expectations for all pupils.
• Has experience of working with pupils with SEND, complex communication needs and/or autism, or demonstrates a strong commitment and willingness to develop expertise in this area.
• Understands the importance of adapting teaching and curriculum approaches to meet individual needs.
• Can plan engaging, meaningful and appropriately challenging learning for pupils working across a range of developmental and academic levels.
• Understands the importance of communication, language, sensory needs, emotional regulation and independence in supporting pupils with complex needs.
• Can establish clear routines and create a positive, structured and nurturing learning environment.
• Is able to lead, guide and deploy other adults effectively.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can build trusting and productive relationships with pupils and their families.

Previous experience within a specialist provision or SEND resource base would be advantageous; however, we are equally interested in excellent teachers who have the right values, aptitude and enthusiasm to develop their specialist knowledge with our support.

As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be observed teaching or working with pupils within our specialist provision.
