Job summary

Wantage Primary Academy in Wantage is seeking an adaptable classroom assistant to support teachers across Early Years and Key Stages 1 and 2, depending on candidate strengths and preferences. We shape roles to develop people within a small Trust.

The role involves running intervention groups, supporting individuals and small groups, and helping pupils become more independent in a warm, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher with the classroom setting, environment and displays
  • Record detailed observations of children within the setting and identify next steps using an online tracker
  • Communicate effectively with the class teachers and principal to support assessment and planning
  • Build up the children's independence, recognising the level of scaffolding needing to support and facilitate positive learning and independence
  • Work both within the classroom and within outside learning area, supporting the children's learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • Lead interventions based on focus pupils, fulfilling their specific targets and objectives
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Bridge gaps in the children's learning so they can fulfil their potential
  • Ensure that interventions are timely and effective, recognising next steps
  • Alongside class teachers, plan and assess suitable interventions

About this Role

This position may include time in Early Years, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, depending on the candidate, their experiences and preferences. We work hard to shape roles and develop people.

The role will ideally be full time 5 days a week (Monday - Friday 8.30 - 3.30).


This role will involve some work within the classroom(s); some of therole involves running intervention groups with identified pupils in class and working to support individuals and groups.


The candidate will be primarily based in one class but may also work with other pupils.


In Class
