Job summary

Wantage Primary Academy is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support classroom learning across year groups. You will assist in creating a positive learning environment, observe pupil progress, and contribute to planning and assessment under the guidance of the class teacher and school leaders.

The role may involve working in Early Years, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, depending on experience and preferences, with opportunities for CPD and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils in classroom settings.
  • Ability to work in Early Years/ KS1/ KS2 depending on needs.
  • Excellent communication with teachers and leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher with classroom environment and displays.
  • Record observations of children and identify next steps.
  • Communicate with teachers and principal to support planning and assessment.
  • Foster independence and appropriate scaffolding for learning.
  • Support learning inside and outside the classroom.
  • Build constructive relationships with pupils and promote inclusion.
  • Encourage pupil interactions and participation in teacher-led activities.
  • Lead interventions focused on targeted pupils and objectives.
  • Set challenging expectations to promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Bridge gaps in learning to help pupils reach potential.
  • Ensure timely and effective interventions with next steps.
  • Assist alongside teachers in planning and assessing suitable interventions.

Job description

This position may include time in Early Years, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, depending on the candidate, their experiences and preferences. We work hard to shape roles and develop people.

The role will ideally be full time 5 days a week (Monday - Friday 8.30 - 3.30).

This role will involve some work within the classroom(s); some of the role involves running intervention groups with identified pupils in class and working to support individuals and groups.

The candidate will be primarily based in one class but may also work with other pupils.

In Class:
  • Support the class teacher with the classroom setting, environment and displays
  • Record detailed observations of children within the setting and identify next steps using an online tracker
  • Communicate effectively with the class teachers and principal to support assessment and planning.
  • Build up the children’s independence, recognising the level of scaffolding needing to support and facilitate positive learning and independence
  • Work both within the classroom and within outside learning area, supporting the children’s learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
Interventions
  • Lead interventions based on focus pupils, fulfilling their specific targets and objectives.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Bridge gaps in the children’s learning so they can fulfil their potential.
  • Ensure that interventions are timely and effective, recognising next steps.
  • Alongside class teachers, plan and assess suitable interventions
