Job summary

Lancashire County Council is seeking 6 Teaching Assistants to support pupils with special educational needs at Mayfield Specialist School in Chorley. You will join a dedicated team delivering day‑to‑day classroom support and hydrotherapy pool assistance under supervision.

Experience with SEN and a background in supporting children in school settings are essential, along with safeguarding awareness. Applications via the school form only.

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 2 or above qualification appropriate to the post (or equivalent).
  • Level 2 in English/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy.
  • Experience of working with or caring for children of relevant age.
  • Experience of working in a classroom or service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEN in a classroom setting and in the hydrotherapy pool under supervision.
  • Assist with general classroom duties and safeguarding of pupils.
  • Follow school policies to safeguard and promote welfare of children and young people.

Salary: £25,989 to £28,142 (full-time equivalent; pro rata).
Location: Mayfield Specialist School, Gloucester Road, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 3HN (132 on roll).

Summary

We are looking to appoint 6 hardworking, motivated and experienced Teaching Assistants with experience in SEN. They will join a well-established team of professionals who are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We offer a staff uniform and wellbeing initiatives.

Responsibilities

The ideal applicants will have prior experience in supporting pupils with special needs in a special or mainstream setting, in addition to supporting general classroom duties and in the hydrotherapy pool under the supervision of the pool manager. Important note: please read the annex "Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions in Special Schools".

Qualifications and Experience
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • NVQ level 2 or above qualification appropriate to the post (or equivalent)

    • Experience of working in a relevant classroom or service environment

    • Experience of supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
