Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting Children Support Teaching Assistants to work across SEN and SEMH schools in Chorley. Opportunities include full-time long-term roles and flexible day-to-day supply from September 2026.

You will support pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning and regulate emotions in a safe, nurturing environment. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, collaboration with teachers and external professionals.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work, sports coaching or support settings.
  • Patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and additional needs.
  • Genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEN and SEMH on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and participation.
  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and support emotional regulation.
  • Promote pupils' social, emotional and personal development.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, parents and external professionals to meet pupil needs.

We are currently recruiting Children Support Teaching Assistants to work across a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) schools in the Chorley area. We have both full-time long-term positions and flexible day-to-day supply opportunities available from September.

As a Children Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a variety of additional needs, helping them to access learning, regulate emotions and achieve their full potential within a safe and nurturing environment.

  • Supporting pupils with SEN and SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
