Job summary

Five Education are recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a special school in Chard. You will support identified pupils with Special Education Needs (SEN) and/or mental health challenges, delivering 1:1 and small group assistance to promote learning and positive behaviour in a calm environment.

The role involves collaborating with teachers and the SENCO to meet EHCP targets, manage classroom dynamics, and implement individual learning plans while maintaining a compassionate, patient and resilient

Qualifications

  • Right to work in the UK; no sponsorships available.
  • Ability to provide two recent references (last two years).
  • Must hold a DBS check on the Update Service, or be willing to apply.
  • Must have a Non-Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service; if not, DBS processed at cost.

Job description

Overview

Five Education are recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a special school in Chard. The role is to support identified pupils with Special Education Needs (SEN) and/or mental health challenges. This work will be supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups.

Previous experience in supporting individuals with SEND such as Autism and an ability to manage challenging behaviour is desirable. The right person for this role will be kind, compassionate, patient and resilient.

Responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
  • Supporting pupils with learning, communication and emotional regulation
  • Working closely with teachers and SENCOs to support EHCP targets and individual learning plans
  • Helping to create a structured, safe and engaging learning environment
Desired Attributes
  • Emotionally resilient and able to stay calm in challenging situations
  • Strong communicator with a positive and proactive mindset
  • Able to build rapport with young people, particularly those who may struggle to trust adults
  • Experience in youth work, care, mental health, sport or support work is valuable, although not essential
Essential Requirements
  • Right to work in the UK – we are unable to offer sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas.
  • Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years).
  • Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
  • Must have a Non‑Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service; if not, a new DBS will be processed at a cost of £62.70, refunded after 20 days of work.

Compensation

Pay: Five Education operates a PAYE payroll. Pay rate is for illustration and includes holiday pay.
