Job summary

Story Wood School in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join our team. We recruit for one position but invite applications from candidates with expertise in either EYFS or pastoral support.

The role offers opportunities to work across early years or pastoral duties, supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and attendance in a warm, values-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering strong outcomes in early years.
  • Experience with Little Wandle phonics and handwriting approaches.
  • Experience supporting pupils with EAL and SEND.
  • Ability to plan engaging, innovative learning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Providing nurture, individual or group support for children.
  • Motivating and encouraging pupils to engage with learning.
  • Supporting children with social, emotional and friendship issues.
  • Supporting pupils with EBSA and attendance where needed.
  • Delivering child-centred activities to promote development and good attendance.

Job description

Story Wood School, part of the Robin Hood Multi Academy Trust, is seeking to appoint an experienced, inspirational and ambitious Teaching Assistant to join our school team.

Please note: We are recruiting for ONE position, but invite applications from candidates with expertise to work initially in EITHER of the following areas:

Option A - EYFS Teaching Assistant:
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate they have:
  • a proven track record of delivering strong outcomes, including: early reading, phonics (Little Wandle) Handwriting (Kinetic Handwriting), curiosity, and outdoor/indoor learning in Early Years.
  • High expectations and a commitment to raising standards for all learners
  • Plan and deliver engaging, innovative learning experiences that ignite curiosity and early development
  • Communicate effectively, and contribute positively as part of a collaborative Team
  • Experience of working with pupils with EAL and SEND.
Option B - Pastoral Teaching Assistant: Supporting pupil well-being, inclusion, positive behaviour management, Safeguarding, Attendance and family engagement across the school.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Providing nurture, individual, or group support for children
  • Motivating and encouraging pupils
  • supporting children with social, emotional and friendship issues
  • supporting children with Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
  • providing support across a range of child-centred activities to promote child development, learning, and good attendance
