Job summary

Wymondham College Prep School, part of Sapientia Education Trust, is seeking a positive, caring Teaching Assistant to support classes and small groups. The role emphasises helping close gaps in students’ knowledge and fostering basic skills in a warm, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

• Core functions include Teaching and Learning: support literacy, numeracy or science to aid student learning.
• Monitor and record student progress and report as directed.
• Use ICT to support learning.
• Work with small groups or individuals to enable learning.
• Assist the teacher on off-site activities.
• Contribute to curriculum and classroom planning and team collaboration.
• Promote wellbeing, behaviour and personal development of students.
• Support students’ resilience and independence; know students’ medical needs and refer issues to relevant staff.

Wymondham College Prep School is looking to appoint a highly committed, enthusiastic and compassionate individual who has an energy and interest in not only working with whole classes of children but also working with small groups of children and/or in a 1:2:1 capacity, intervening to close gaps in children’s subject knowledge and developing their basic skills.

Wymondham College Prep School opened in September 2020 with two Reception classes housed in Wymondham College. In September 2021 the school moved into its new purpose-built home on the site of Wymondham College. The school is currently two form entry from Reception – Year 4 and three form entry in Year 5 & Year 6 due to our boarders with 454 pupils on roll.

We are a school built on kindness, providing a holistic and values led education with relationships, wellbeing and belonging at the heart of everything we do. We use restorative justice and zones of regulation to ensure our pupils constantly reflect on their choices, feelings and interactions with others, enabling them to truly flourish.

THE POST

We are looking for a positive, caring and inspiring Teaching Assistant to join the team at Wymondham College Prep School on a permanent basis. The role will support the complement the professional work of teachers as directed

The Successful Candidate Will

• Have previous experience working with children, preferably primary school age, in a classroom or similar environment and have evidence of professional growth having received training in a range of different academic, SEND and social & emotional areas of child development;
• Be committed to the school’s high standards of teaching, learning and professional development;
• Be eager to learn, develop and grow in order to be an exceptional practitioner;
• Have excellent communication skills, a warm and caring disposition and a good sense of humour;

JOB SPECIFICATION

Core job functions: Teaching and Learning

• Develops and uses knowledge and skills e.g. literacy, numeracy or science to contribute to student learning.
• Monitor, evaluate and records students’ progress and reports this as directed.
• Use information and communication technology to support students learning.
• Works with small groups or individual students to enable learning.
• Provides support to the teacher by accompanying students on off-site activities.
• Discusses with the teacher and contributes to curriculum and classroom planning – informally and at meetings.
• Works as part of a team to ensure that the wellbeing, behaviour and personal development of students enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
• Assist in the educational and social development of all students.
• Have full relevant knowledge of students medical and physical needs and able to refer to the relevant person should a problem arise.
• Assist students in developing their resilience and independence in the classroom.

Have a full knowledge of student’s needs and ensuring that any disclosure a student may make must be reported to the classroom teacher and Child Protection Officers immediately.
