Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust is seeking a calm, patient 1:1 Teaching Assistant for St Peter’s CE Primary Academy in Salisbury. The role is 30 hours per week, fixed term, supporting a pupil with bespoke needs and close collaboration with the teaching team.

The successful candidate will differentiate learning, maintain boundaries, and contribute to a nurturing, high-expectation classroom environment.

Located to the west of Salisbury, the heart of a vibrant new community, St. Peter’s CE Primary Academy is set in extensive grounds overlooking the Wiltshire countryside. The building has state of the art facilities including a multi-use hall, extensive sports facilities inside and out, a multi-functional studio, food-technology room and a purpose-built nursery setting.

All about the role:

We are seeking a calm, patient and highly consistent 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child who can find aspects of the school day challenging and may need additional help to regulate their emotions and behaviour. The successful candidate will build a secure and trusting relationship with the child, recognise potential triggers and use positive, proactive strategies to help them remain engaged in learning. Experience of supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs, emotional regulation or distressed behaviour would be highly beneficial. The ability to remain calm, maintain clear boundaries and respond sensitively during difficult moments is essential.

The hours are 8.30am to 3pm (with a 30 minute lunchbreak) Monday to Friday. 30 hours per week, 38 weeks per year. The successful candidate will be employed under a Named Pupil Contract, with the role funded to provide dedicated support for a specific pupil and therefore linked to that pupil's attendance and support needs within the school.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Work closely with the class teacher and another teaching assistant within the classroom whilst supporting the pupil with their classroom learning and social communication skills.
  • Be proactive and committed to differentiating and adapting learning to suit the needs of individual children
  • Have some relevant experience supporting pupils within a school setting.
  • Lead, inspire and motivate children
  • Have high expectations and excellent classroom practice
  • Have a desire to improve their own practice further
