Job summary

Randstad Education in Castle Cary is seeking a flexible Secondary Teaching Assistant for day-to-day supply across KS3 and KS4. This role suits graduates or experienced TAs looking for local, flexible classroom experience.

You will support individual students or small groups, assist teachers, and help SEN needs while maintaining a positive learning environment. Monday to Friday during term-time, 8:30am–3:30pm, paid weekly.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people (11-16) in school or similar settings.
• Strong communication and an approachable manner.
• Based in or able to commute to Castle Cary.
• GCSE English and Maths Grade C/4 or equivalent.
• DBS disclosure required or willing to apply for Enhanced Child Workforce DBS.

This is an ideal opportunity for experienced TAs looking for local flexibility, or graduates seeking valuable secondary school experience before pursuing a career in education.

Responsibilities

• Support individual students or small groups across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7-11) during lessons.
• Assist class teachers with general classroom support, keeping students focused and engaged in their tasks.
• Help implement tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or additional learning requirements.
• Promote positive behaviour and foster a welcoming, safe learning space.
• Adapt quickly to different subjects, age groups, and classroom environments throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people (aged 11-16) in a school, youth group, tutoring, or care setting is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with an approachable, confident manner.
• A proactive attitude and the ability to hit the ground running in different classroom settings each day.
• Based in or able to commute easily to Castle Cary.
• Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. A degree or TA qualification (Level 2/3) is an advantage but not essential.
• Must hold (or be willing to apply for) an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service.
