Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a Secondary Teaching Assistant for day-to-day supply at a Castle Cary secondary school. You will support students in KS3-4, assist teachers, and help manage student behavior while maintaining a welcoming learning space.

The role requires adaptability, reliable communication, and a proactive attitude. DBS update and eligibility to work in the UK are necessary, with term-time hours and a 8:30–3:30 schedule.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people in school, youth groups, tutoring, or care settings.
• Strong communication skills with an approachable manner.
• Proactive attitude and ability to adapt to different classrooms daily.
• Based in or able to commute to Castle Cary.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or equivalent; TA qualification is an advantage.
• Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (Update Service).

We are seeking adaptable, energetic, and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a vibrant local secondary school in Castle Cary on a day-to-day supply basis. This is an ideal opportunity for experienced TAs looking for local flexibility, or graduates seeking valuable secondary school experience before pursuing a career in education.

Responsibilities

• Support individual students or small groups across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7-11) during lessons.
• Assist class teachers with general classroom support, keeping students focused and engaged in their tasks.
• Help implement tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or additional learning requirements.
• Promote positive behaviour and foster a welcoming, safe learning space.
• Adapt quickly to different subjects, age groups, and classroom environments throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people (aged 11-16) in a school, youth group, tutoring, or care setting is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with an approachable, confident manner.
• A proactive attitude and the ability to hit the ground running in different classroom settings each day.
• Based in or able to commute easily to Castle Cary.
• Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. A degree or TA qualification (Level 2/3) is an advantage but not essential.
• Must hold (or be willing to apply for) an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service.
