Job summary

Randstad Education is recruiting a Secondary Teaching Assistant (Day-to-Day Supply) for a Castle Cary secondary school. The role offers local flexibility and is ideal for experienced TAs or graduates seeking hands-on classroom experience.

You will support pupils aged 11-16 across KS3/KS4, assist teachers, and help embed SEN support while maintaining a positive, safe learning space. DBS check and commutable location are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience with young people (11-16) in school, youth groups, tutoring or care settings.
• Strong communication with an approachable, confident manner.
• Proactive attitude and ability to hit the ground running in different classroom settings.
• Based in Castle Cary or easily commutable.
• GCSE English and Maths at minimum grade C/4.
• Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on Update Service (willing to apply).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Support individual students or small groups across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7-11) during lessons.
• Assist class teachers with general classroom support, keeping students focused and engaged in their tasks.
• Help implement tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or additional learning requirements.
• Promote positive behaviour and foster a welcoming, safe learning space.
• Adapt quickly to different subjects, age groups, and classroom environments throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people (aged 11-16) in a school, youth group, tutoring, or care setting is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with an approachable, confident manner.
• A proactive attitude and the ability to hit the ground running in different classroom settings each day.
• Based in or able to commute easily to Castle Cary.
• Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. A degree or TA qualification (Level 2/3) is an advantage but not essential.
• Must hold (or be willing to apply for) an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service.
