Job summary

New Directions Education in Wakefield is seeking passionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support learners with additional needs across mainstream and resource provisions. The role emphasizes trauma-informed approaches, Team-Teach training, and a solid understanding of SEND needs, including Autism, SLCN, and SEMH.

Some personal care duties may be required. You will work 1:1 or in small groups, helping implement education and behaviour plans and fostering pupil progress and social development.

Qualifications

  • Experience with trauma-informed approaches and therapeutic behaviour support.
  • Trained in Team-Teach or other recognised behaviour intervention methods.
  • Solid understanding of SEND needs (Autism, SLCN, SEMH).
  • Experience providing personal care when required.

New Directions Education are recruiting for a pool of passionate, supportive, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to work within Mainstream, Secondary Resource Provisions across the Wakefield area.


This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are committed to helping learners with additional needs thrive within both mainstream classrooms and specialised support environments.


We want to hear from individuals who:



  • Have knowledge or experience of trauma-informed approaches and therapeutic behaviour support.

  • Are trained in Team-Teach or other recognised behaviour intervention methods.

  • Have a solid understanding of a range of SEND needs, including Autism, Speech, Language and Communication Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health.

  • Have experience providing personal care when required.


Working as a Teaching Assistant in a Mainstream Resource Provision is both rewarding and challenging. You will play a vital role in supporting learners on a 1:1 or small group basis, helping to implement individual education and behaviour plans, and encouraging pupils to achieve their learning goals. Building strong, trusting relationships with students is key to supporting their progress and confidence in both learning and social development.
