Job summary

Stoke Gabriel Primary School in Totnes is seeking a friendly Teaching Assistant with Mealtime Assistant duties. The role combines general classroom support with a dedicated mealtime role, for 39 weeks per year.

The successful candidate should be nurturing, flexible and capable of building positive relationships with children, staff and parents. Ideally you will have strong literacy and numeracy, be able to work as part of a team, and show initiative.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide general classroom support across the school.
  • Support pupils during lessons and activities as required.
  • Attend to pupils during mealtimes as Mealtime Assistant.

Job description

Teaching Assistant with Mealtime Assistant duty

4 full days and one morning , 39 weeks per year

22.25hrs per week Teaching Assistant NJC Grade C, £13.92ph
5hrs per week Mealtime Assistant Duty NJC Grade A, £13.28ph

To commence November 2026

This role will be to provide general classroom support across the school, but maybe tailored to a specific key stage/class depending on the successful applicants skillset and knowledge. We are looking for an individual with a strong, sensitive and nurturing approach to children's needs, who can be flexible, communicate effectively and think creatively. You will need to show a high degree of initiative and be solution focussed.

Ideally, you should already have a good knowledge of all key stages and early years including phonics, but training will be provided otherwise, plus literacy and numeracy to GCSE A-C or equivalent. You would need to be flexible, as you will also be required to undertake the role of part time Meal Time Assistant.
