Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Telford. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access learning and develop new skills.

You will work with pupils with Autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, following EHCPs and using structured learning strategies to build confidence and independence. A collaborative team environment is offered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience in a school, specialist setting or SEND education environment.
  • Experience supporting Autism, learning disabilities and/or complex needs.
  • Ability to provide references for your most recent 24 months.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Patient, nurturing and resilient approach.

The Role

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a school, specialist setting or SEND education environment
  • Confidence supporting Autism, learning disabilities and/or complex needs
  • Experience providing both 1:1 and small-group support
  • Understanding of varied learning and communication needs
  • Patient, nurturing and resilient approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Team player who works effectively with others
  • Teaching Assistant or SEND-related qualifications are desirable
  • Ability to provide references for your most recent 24 months
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Location and Package

Based in Telford and surrounding areas

Daily rate: £95.00 – £109.25

Flexible start date from October 2026
