Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment are seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with additional needs in Tamworth and surrounding areas.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, work with pupils with Autism, communication needs and learning disabilities, and follow individual plans and EHCP outcomes. A DBS update service is preferred; references covering the last 24 months are required.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience within a school, specialist school or SEND education setting.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to have one processed.
  • References covering your most recent 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support

  • Using visual, sensory and structured approaches to learning
  • Supporting communication, engagement and interaction
  • Encouraging independence and the development of life skills
  • Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Helping pupils access learning at an appropriate level
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times

The Role
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, communication needs and learning disabilities
  • Supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD and complex needs where required
  • Following individual support plans and EHCP outcomes
  • Using visual, sensory and structured approaches to learning
  • Supporting communication, engagement and interaction
  • Encouraging independence and the development of life skills
  • Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Helping pupils access learning at an appropriate level
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Skills and Experience
  • At least 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • Previous experience within a school, specialist school or SEND education setting
  • Experience supporting Autism, learning disabilities and/or complex needs is highly desirable
  • Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Understanding of different communication and learning needs
  • Patient, resilient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Teaching Assistant or SEND-related qualification is desirable
  • Ability to provide references covering your most recent 24 months
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to have one processed
Location and Package
  • Based in Tamworth and surrounding areas
  • Daily rate: £95.00 – £109.25
  • Flexible start from October 2026
