Job summary

Smart Education Recruitment Ltd in Tamworth is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with additional needs. The role offers 1:1 and small-group support, working with pupils on communication, independence and emotional development.

The position provides competitive daily pay (£95.00–£109.25) and options for full-time, part-time or flexible contracts across long-term and day-to-day assignments in specialist SEND settings.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience supporting Autism, learning disabilities and/or complex needs is highly desirable.
  • Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support.
  • Understanding of different communication and learning needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Teaching Assistant or SEND-related qualification is desirable.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to have one processed.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, communication needs and learning disabilities.
  • Supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD and complex needs where required.
  • Following individual support plans and EHCP outcomes.
  • Using visual, sensory and structured approaches to learning.
  • Supporting communication, engagement and interaction.
  • Encouraging independence and life skills development.
  • Supporting pupils' social and emotional development.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Helping pupils access learning at an appropriate level.
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals.
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide individualised support for pupils with a range of additional needs. Your duties may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, communication needs and learning disabilities
  • Supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD and complex needs where required

Skills and Experience

  • At least 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • Previous experience within a school, specialist school or SEND education setting
  • Experience supporting Autism, learning disabilities and/or complex needs is highly desirable
  • Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Understanding of different communication and learning needs
  • Patient, resilient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Teaching Assistant or SEND-related qualification is desirable
  • Ability to provide references covering your most recent 24 months
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to have one processed

Location and Package

  • Based in Tamworth and surrounding areas
  • Daily rate: £95.00 - £109.25
  • Flexible start from October 2026
