Job summary

GSL Education - Newcastle in Newcastle is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team for a full-time/flexible role starting September 2026. You will support pupils in learning and help them achieve their full potential within the classroom.

The ideal candidate will have experience with children or young people, be patient and adaptable, and possess strong communication and teamwork skills. DBS required; experience with SEND is desirable; competitive daily pay and consultant

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Patient, adaptable and supportive in approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Confident supporting pupils with varying abilities and needs.
  • Experience supporting SEND pupils desirable.
  • SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA experience is an advantage.
  • Confident supporting pupils with additional needs including ASD, ADHD and SEMH.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willing to apply.
  • Fully checkable work history.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting teaching and learning within the classroom.

  • Assisting with lesson preparation and classroom organisation.
  • Delivering targeted interventions to support pupil progress.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and classroom engagement.
  • Supporting pupils with SEND and additional learning needs where required.
  • Encouraging pupil confidence, independence and participation.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Salary: £90-£120 per day (dependent on experience)

Start Date: September 2026

Key Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:
  • Supporting teaching and learning within the classroom.
  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Assisting with lesson preparation and classroom organisation.

The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will:
  • Have previous experience working with children or young people.

  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be confident supporting pupils with varying abilities and needs.
  • Have experience supporting SEND pupils (desirable).
  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA would be a significant advantage.
  • Be confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD and SEMH.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).
  • Have a fully checkable work history.
