Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support secondary students in Sunderland with KS3–KS5 exposure. The role involves helping teachers deliver engaging lessons and providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils aged 11–19.

The position is full-time on a temporary basis with potential to become permanent, with a September 2026 start date. Location is Newcastle, with a standard school day from 8:30am to 3:30pm.

Qualifications

  • Experience in schools, education, childcare or youth work is desirable.
  • Confident supporting 1:1 and small groups.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 academic and pastoral support.

We are recruiting on behalf of secondary schools across Sunderland seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to support students in KS3, KS4 and KS5 settings. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on young people's education, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

About the role:
  • Supporting students aged 11-19 across all year groups, depending on your preference and experience.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Providing tailored academic and pastoral support on a 1:1 basis.
  • Supporting small groups of students, typically between 3-5 pupils.
  • Helping to create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Encouraging student engagement, confidence and independence in the classroom.
Pay, Hours and Contract:
  • Pay: 15 - 17 per hour
  • Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
  • Contract: Full-time, temporary position with the potential to become permanent
  • Start Date: September 2026
  • Location: Newcastle
Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Previous experience working in a school, education, childcare, youth work or support based setting is desirable.
  • Teaching Assistant, Supporting Teaching & Learning, childcare or related qualification (preferred but not essential).
  • Confident supporting students on a 1:1 basis and within small group settings.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, positive and proactive approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to process a new application.
  • Professional child-related or care-related references covering the last two years.
