Job summary

GSL Education is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in Sunderland schools. The role involves working with teachers and the SENCO to implement tailored support plans.

You'll provide one-to-one and small-group support, adapt resources, and help foster a safe, inclusive learning environment. Experience with SEND and safeguarding knowledge is desirable, with DBS Update Service preferred; roles are day-to-day or long-term, full-time or

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN.
  • Strong SEND knowledge (ASC, ADHD, SEMH).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, caring, adaptable approach to supporting students.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to apply.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support students according to their IEPs and learning requirements.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage social and emotional development.

  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.

Location: Sunderland
Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Sunderland.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by promoting confidence, independence, and academic progress in an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support students according to their individual education plans (IEPs) and learning requirements.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage students' social and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.

Requirements of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of SEND, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting students.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
