Job summary

Worcestershire County Council is seeking an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join the Medical Education Team. The role supports pupils unable to attend school due to medical reasons, providing in-person and online learning, and tailored pastoral support to help them progress and reintegrate.

You will work with a dedicated team to assist with classroom routines, resource preparation, and safeguarding in a nurturing environment, including home-based support if required.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting learners with SEND, medical needs, social and emotional needs, or barriers to attendance (EBSA) would be advantageous.
• Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.
• Clear commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, inclusion and professional practice.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils in small groups, one-to-one sessions, online learning and, where appropriate, in school or home settings.
• Prepare resources, monitor daily attendance, provide first aid, supervise pupils during learning and transition times, and contribute to reviews when appropriate.
• Work alongside teaching staff and colleagues to help pupils engage with education and progress towards reintegration.

Job description

Required from November 2026, or earlier if it can be negotiated, we are seeking an excellent, experienced and compassionate Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join the Medical Education Team. The successful candidate will support pupils who are currently unable to attend their school setting for medical reasons, including pupils with additional needs, to access learning, develop confidence and make progress within a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment. Pupils accessing the MET are typically of secondary age and may require academic, social, emotional and pastoral support tailored to their individual circumstances. The Teaching Assistant will work under the direction of teaching staff and senior colleagues to support pupils in small groups, one-to-one sessions, online learning and, where appropriate, in school or home settings. The MET offers pupils tuition within small groups, in English, mathematics, science and PSHE. Pupils who are unable to attend lessons within a MET base may be offered one-to-one sessions or small group classes via Teams and, in some instances, support within the home or school setting. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of committed teachers and support staff to help pupils engage positively with education, build independent learning skills and prepare for reintegration or their next steps. The role will include supporting classroom routines, preparing resources, monitoring daily attendance, providing first aid, supervising pupils during learning, social and transition times, and contributing to reviews where appropriate. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and young people, has strong communication and organisational skills, and is able to work sensitively with pupils whose medical needs may affect their attendance, confidence and engagement.
