Job description

Teaching Assistant

Be the Difference. Change a Young Person's Future.

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve their potential?

Are you looking for a rewarding role where every day brings purpose, challenge and the opportunity to make a genuine difference?

We are looking for caring, enthusiastic and resilient Teaching Assistants to join a welcoming and supportive team within an independent special needs day school.

Our students are aged KS3, KS4 and KS5 and have a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex needs. Many have experienced significantly disrupted educational journeys and need adults who will believe in them, champion their strengths and help them succeed.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be much more than a classroom support. You will be a mentor, motivator, role model and trusted adult, helping young people develop confidence, independence, resilience and the skills they need for their future.

Every Day Is Different

No two days are the same.

You could be supporting a student with their learning, helping someone regulate their emotions, encouraging independence, building confidence or celebrating a breakthrough that seemed impossible just weeks before.

You'll have the opportunity to see first-hand the difference that patience, consistency and positive relationships can make.

Our approach is built around strong relationships and the principles of Attachment Theory. We believe in understanding the individual behind the behaviour and creating a calm, safe and purposeful environment where young people can thrive.

We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from you if you are:

  • Passionate about supporting young people and improving their life chances.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, patient and resilient.
  • Confident in building strong and trusting relationships.
  • Able to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.
  • Experienced in, or interested in, working with young people with SEMH, SEND, autism or complex needs.
  • A creative thinker who can adapt your approach to meet individual needs.
  • Someone who understands that behaviour is a form of communication.
  • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively.
  • Committed to inclusion, wellbeing and achievement.
  • Someone who believes that every young person can succeed with the right support.
  • Prepared to bring energy, humour and a positive attitude to every day.
What We Can Offer You
  • A warm, welcoming and supportive working environment.
  • A workplace where staff wellbeing is genuinely valued.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to young people's lives.
  • Small class sizes and a personalised, relationship-based approach.
  • A highly supportive and collaborative team.
  • Excellent professional development and career progression opportunities.
  • A rewarding role where you can see the impact of your work every day.
  • The opportunity to work with young people who will challenge, inspire and surprise you with what they can achieve.
  • A 9am-3pm core working day, making this role particularly attractive to those seeking shorter working hours.
  • CPD and training opportunities, including occasional extended days with advance notice.
Join Us and Make a Difference

This is an opportunity to do more than simply support education. It is an opportunity to change lives.

If you are compassionate, resilient and committed to helping young people discover what they are capable of, we want to hear from you.

Bring your enthusiasm. Build relationships. Inspire confidence. Change a future.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, dignity and respect.
