Job description

Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Practitioner

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people?

Do you have the enthusiasm, resilience and commitment to support students who have experienced significant challenges in their education?

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our welcoming and dedicated team at our independent special needs day school.

We support young people across KS3, KS4 and KS5 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex needs. All of our students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and many have experienced significantly disrupted educational journeys.

This is a rewarding opportunity to become part of a supportive team where you can build positive relationships with students and help them achieve their personal, social and academic potential.

About the role

As a member of our team, you will play an important role in supporting students both academically and behaviourally. You will help create a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment, working alongside colleagues to ensure every young person has the opportunity to succeed.

Our approach is underpinned by the principles of Attachment Theory, and we believe strongly in getting to know each student as an individual. Our small-school approach allows staff to develop meaningful relationships with students and provide personalised support based on their individual needs.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with young people with challenging or complex behaviour, ideally within an SEMH, SEND or similar setting.
  • Is confident in building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Can inspire, encourage and motivate students to achieve their potential.
  • Has an understanding of the factors that can influence behaviour.
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Is patient, flexible, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Works well as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
  • Has a positive attitude, a good sense of humour and a genuine desire to make a difference.
What we can offer you
  • A welcoming, supportive and positive working environment.
  • A strong focus on the wellbeing of both students and staff.
  • The opportunity to work with young people and see the exceptional progress they can make.
  • A hardworking, supportive and solution-focused team of professionals.
  • A highly rewarding role where your contribution can have a genuine and lasting impact on young people's lives.
  • A core working day of 9am-3pm, making this role particularly suitable for those looking for shorter working hours.
  • Some extended days for CPD and training, with advance notice provided.
Make a difference every day

If you are enthusiastic about working with young people, believe in their potential and are committed to improving their life chances, we would love to hear from you.

Join a team where relationships matter, every student is valued as an individual, and the work you do can genuinely change lives.
