About The Team We Are Recruiting To

Tiverton School is a small Primary Special Needs school. We have 133 pupils on roll who come from Coventry and all have an EHC Plan of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Our pupils are at the heart of all we do.

We were graded ‘Good’ in our most recent OFSTED inspection.

We already have a large number of committed staff, who share the school vision:

“Passionate about celebrating learning, enjoyment and achievement for all”

The Headteacher and Governors recognise the immense and valuable role played by all staff at the school.

The role of the Teaching Assistant (TA) at Tiverton is invaluable in supporting the teaching, learning, care and behaviour for all pupils across the primary school.

What is the job role?

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils with special educational needs in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with the class teacher and other staff to help deliver learning activities, provide personalised support for individual pupils, and help maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils in their learning, both individually and in small groups
  • Helping to implement learning programmes tailored to individual needs
  • Assisting with personal care, mobility, and feeding where required
  • Supporting behaviour management and promoting positive routines
  • Preparing resources and helping organise the learning environment
  • Assisting with the physical and emotional wellbeing of pupils
  • Helping monitor and track progress under the guidance of teaching staff
  • Contributing to record-keeping and communication with families and professionals

This is a rewarding and varied role that requires patience, compassion, resilience and a genuine desire to help children achieve their full potential.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a dedicated, caring, and adaptable Teaching Assistant who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of pupils with a range of special educational needs. You’ll have experience (either paid or voluntary) working with children, and a good understanding of child development and different ways children learn.

You’ll need:

️ A minimum of an NVQ Level 2 qualification

️ Excellent literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

️ A caring and flexible approach to support the personal care needs of pupils

️ Confidence to work independently and as part of a team

️ A commitment to safeguarding and equal opportunities

️ The ability to contribute to the creation of a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

In this role, you’ll support teaching staff in delivering engaging lessons, implement specialist programmes, manage resources, and help create positive learning experiences for all pupils. You’ll also need to be proactive in supporting children’s personal development and wellbeing, and have the skills to help manage behaviour positively.

If you’re motivated, adaptable, and ready to support our school vision – we’d love to hear from you!

Working hours will be:

Monday – 8.30am – 4.30pm

Tuesday – Thursday 8.30am – 4.15pm

Friday – 8.30am – 3.30pm

*15 minute unpaid break in the morning and 30 minute unpaid lunch break*

Visits to the school are welcomed, please contact the school

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS.

Interviews will be held on 7th July 2025

Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for an additional pre employment check with effect 1 Sept 22, please note, an online search may form part of this recruitment process.
