Job description

  • Suitable for: ECT (NQT) Graduates; Other Graduates

We are looking for a hard-working individual to join us as a Teaching Assistant.

The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility, and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical, and extra-curricular activities.

About the role
The Inclusion department is led by a Head of Inclusion, who is also our ALNCo, and supported by our dedicated team of outstanding classroom teaching assistants. In addition, we allocate specialist teachers from English and mathematics to help a very few students, who are below chronological age, make rapid progress. The school has approximately 150 students listed on the Inclusion register. Many students have access to additional support, predominantly in small group basis to help them to develop their basic skills. Teaching assistants play a crucial role in ensuring students with additional learning needs are given every chance to succeed and progress, both academically and socially.

Our teaching assistants also run daily lunchtime clubs which are open to all students. The department is one of the largest in the school and relies on communication, initiative, and flexibility to ensure it is effective. As a result, teaching assistants are expected to attend regular departmental meetings, undertake key roles within the department and to contribute to multi-agency meetings. The role would suit someone who is passionate about working with young people to help them reach their potential. Furthermore, many of our teaching assistants use this as an opportunity to gauge whether or not teaching is the profession for them. In the last three years, several of our staff have enrolled on to teacher training as a result.

Closing Date 12.00pm on 25th June 2025;
Interview Date w/c 30th June 2025; and
Start Date 1st September 2025.

Employment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The Bishop of Llandaff is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.We welcome applications from all sections of the community irrespective of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion or age.
