Doucecroft School, part of Autism Anglia, is seeking a Primary Teacher with Design & Technology experience to join our friendly team in Colchester. You will deliver engaging, differentiated learning for pupils with autism.

The role requires QTS, an undergraduate degree, and experience in primary settings, with a focus on D&T. Term-time schedule with training days and no sponsorships.

Primary Teacher with Design & Technology Experience - Autism Anglia and Doucecroft School, Colchester

Doucecroft School, part of Autism Anglia, is looking for a Primary Teacher with experience in Design & Technology (D&T) to join our friendly and dedicated team.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a Primary Teacher who enjoys encouraging learners both individually and in small groups, helping them build confidence, develop new skills and thrive in a safe and supportive environment.

We are looking for someone who can bring practical D&T knowledge and experience to the role.Your experience can be within any area of Design & Technology, and we welcome applicants from a range of D&T backgrounds and specialisms.

Location

Subject to experience, M1-M6 plus SEN allowance

Hours

38.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per year (term time only) plus 3 training days during school holidays

What the Primary Teacher role involves

• Meeting the Teachers' Standards, which set the minimum requirements for a teacher's conduct and practice.
• Working within the policies and guidance of Doucecroft School as an effective and motivational professional who is ambitious for our learners and supports both pupils and colleagues to achieve their best.
• Providing high-quality education and care for pupils with autism.
• Planning and delivering engaging and differentiated Primary-level learning, tailored to the individual needs, abilities and interests of each learner.
• Using your Design & Technology experience to enhance practical and creative learning opportunities across the curriculum, adapting activities appropriately to meet the needs of our learners.
• Supporting pupils to explore, create, problem-solve and develop practical skills through engaging learning experiences.
• Delivering engaging learning that encourages pupils to participate in appropriate tasks and activities within the school's agreed curriculum.
• Supporting the development of pupils' personal and social skills to help them manage their everyday lives and become increasingly independent.
• Providing appropriate challenge for our young people within a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.
• Working collaboratively with all areas of the school's multidisciplinary team to provide consistent and individualised support.
• Taking responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and management of the classroom, including learners, staff and the physical environment. This will include working with learners at lunchtime and supervising break times.
• Adhering to the autism accreditation framework and ensuring appropriate support is embedded for each learner.
• Complying with and promoting the school's policies and procedures, particularly those relating to child protection, safeguarding, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection.

What we're looking for

• Are currently working at Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Have previously undertaken an Undergraduate degree
• Previous experience teaching within a Primary setting
• Has experience, knowledge or a particular interest in Design & Technology, which can be within any D&T subject or specialism
• Ideally has previous experience, qualifications or training in special education.
• Has knowledge of SEN and experience of adapting teaching and assessment to meet a range of individual needs.
• Ideally has relevant experience working with pupils with autism and/or learning disabilities within an educational setting.
• Holds a full driving licence.

Information about the School

Doucecroft School is a specialist co-educational school for children and young people with autism and additional complex needs, age 3 –19 years. Established in 1973, we are experienced and successful in meeting the needs of students with wide-ranging strengths and needs, providing a nurturing environment where students are able to thrive and grow in independence and self-esteem.

Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy are provided on-site by our experienced therapy team.
