Job summary

Red Kite School in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, seeks a Design Technology Teacher to inspire pupils through practical projects, turning ideas into real outcomes.

You’ll plan and deliver hands-on lessons, support individual learning needs, and work with colleagues to develop safe, creative experiences. Start January 2027; permanent contract; 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Experience, knowledge or relevant qualifications within Design Technology
• The creativity and practical skills to make learning engaging and meaningful
• The ability to plan and adapt lessons for different needs and abilities
• A genuine passion for helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning
• A calm, patient and resilient approach when pupils find learning challenging
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals
• The ability to build positive relationships and encourage pupils to recognise their own strengths

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver creative and engaging Design Technology lessons that encourage practical learning and participation
• Give pupils chances to develop skills through designing, making, evaluating and problem solving
• Adapt teaching and practical activities around individual learning needs, strengths and interests
• Build positive relationships with pupils, creating an environment where they feel safe to experiment, make mistakes and try again
• Help pupils develop confidence, independence and practical skills alongside their academic learning
• Set meaningful goals, monitor progress and recognise both individual achievements and significant milestones
• Develop and contribute to personalised learning plans, including IEPs and behaviour support strategies
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and wider professionals to provide consistent and individualised support

About the Role

At Red Kite School, we’re looking for an enthusiastic and creative Design Technology Teacher who can turn ideas into practical learning experiences and help pupils develop confidence, curiosity and valuable skills for their future.

You’ll create engaging Design Technology lessons that give pupils opportunities to design, make, experiment and problem solve, adapting learning around individual needs and abilities. This is a role where practical achievement can become a powerful way to re engage a young person with education and show them what they are capable of achieving.

Whether you’re already teaching within specialist education or you’re an experienced mainstream Design Technology Teacher looking for a different kind of teaching career, you’ll be supported to develop your skills within our specialist environment.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who can combine a passion for Design Technology with an understanding that every pupil learns differently.

You’ll need:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Experience, knowledge or relevant qualifications withinDesign Technology
• The creativity and practical skills to make learning engaging and meaningful
• The ability to plan and adapt lessons for different needs and abilities
• A genuine passion for helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning
• A calm, patient and resilient approach when pupils find learning challenging
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals
• The ability to build positive relationships and encourage pupils to recognise their own strengths

Experience within SEN, Autism, SEMH or specialist education is highly desirable, but it is not essential. We also welcome applications from experienced mainstream Design Technology Teachers who are ready to bring their subject expertise into specialist education.
