Dunottar School is a vibrant, co-educational independent secondary school in Reigate, Surrey. The school has 460 pupils across Years 7-13 and forms part of United Learning. It celebrated its centenary in 2026 and has recently received permission to expand its roll to 600 students.

The role

Dunottar School seeks to appoint a high-calibre and enthusiastic Teacher of Science with a Chemistry specialism. The successful candidate will teach Science at KS3 and Chemistry at KS4 and KS5. This is a fixed-term position from January 2027 to December 2027.

The Science department is well established, with six spacious laboratories and two preparation rooms. Pupils follow the AQA specification in Biology, Chemistry and Physics from Year 9 onwards, and the same specification at A Level. The department runs an annual Science Week and offers co-curricular activities including Café Scientifique, Dissection Club and Science Club.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain high expectations of all pupils and create a stimulating, positive learning environment
• Plan lessons that take account of pupils’ aptitudes, needs and prior attainment
• Attend staff and departmental meetings and maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment and reports
• Contribute to curriculum planning and the development of schemes of work
• Support the departmental co-curricular and extra-curricular programme
• Engage in ongoing professional development related to developments in the sciences

Requirements

• A relevant honours degree and PGCE or QTS
• Excellent academic record and strong subject knowledge
• Enthusiasm for the curriculum and evidence of creative, innovative teaching approaches, including appropriate use of ICT
• Ability to teach all Sciences at GCSE and Chemistry up to A Level
• High levels of personal and professional integrity, self-confidence and personal energy
• Excellent organisational skills and strong oral and written English
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
